A veneer is essentially a tooth shaped cover that fits on top of the existing tooth that is front facing. They are made from porcelain which is an ideal material for them as it is strong but light.
There is very little preparation that needs to be performed on the tooth before the veneer is affixed to it. A strong adhesive is used to give you peace of mind in knowing that it is firmly in place.
Porcelain veneers serve the function of improving the position, shape and colour of the teeth.
The specific shade that is right for you can be chosen so that the restoration fits naturally into the rest of your smile and cannot be picked out in a line up.
If you have a small gap that means orthodontic treatment is not possible, then a veneer can often be used to correct the issue.
Alternatively if a tooth seems out of position in comparison to the rest of your teeth, then we can bring it back into line with a porcelain veneer.
Porcelain veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of teeth.
A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured or stained tooth or to lighten front teeth (usually the upper ones) generally.
Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) are not suitable.
If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.
